Saying 'Till Death'...

Susan called me last night. Yeah I know, big deal..but still very
remarkable because we work in the same office and she was gonna see me
today anyway. Even more remarkable because Susan is your typical Igbo
 Girl..

Penny and Pound wise she'd rather use any other means of
communication than spend her credit making a call that wasn't gonna
bring her money. Susan is that girl who'll ping your life out, send
text messages ( when she knows it's free) and even more annoyingly
flash you ( in 2012 oh, who does that?) to discuss her private issues
so naturally I was very puzzled to see that Susan was calling me, not
once, not even three times, five times.
.
It took me so long to answer her call because my first thought was
this babe is flashing me. On the third ring I was thinking why are you
calling me now that Ik is about to announce the Big Brother Stargame
winner ( Keagan ,who would have thought?) . On the fourth ring I was
still rejoicing that annoying Prezzo didn't win so on the fifth ring,
 I took her call.
She was in tears and I knew it had to be something really bad because
I have known Susan for 14 years now and I haven't ever seen or even
heard her cry over anything. After a lot of talking to calm her down
she told me what had happened.

She and Nonso were getting a divorce just 8 months after getting married..I needed details. My mind screamed why? What? How come? And even more why's?
I was really shocked! Not because they were getting a divorce (you
should visit a family court one day)   But because it was the Okoroafor's.
I have never seen a couple as in love as the Okoroafor's,they kiss themselves even in a market-place, they were almost always together, in fact the last
time i visited their house I still saw them eat out of the same plate
doing all those annoyingly awkward things you only see done in
 Nigerian movies to symbolise Romance.

I began to really think..how does anyone know when they meet the right
person..how does anyone know whether they're marrying the right
person.. How does anyone even know when they're dating the right
person..If it could happen to them, what hope can one have in love?
In the next couple of months I'll be telling you the story of
the Okoroafor's from how they met till how they got to the point that they
are now..I'll be writing with Fela Durotoye's 'mr fantastic ' as a
guide so if you don't have it you know what to do..

Till next week, I'm Ese Paul-Ebiai
